CAMPING IN THE MOUNTAINS

…the mountains and the valleys with their rivers and their woods…

In my opinion, a beautiful experience that a youth should have is that of camping in the mountains with other young people. I have been camping several times and I have always been enthusiastic about it.   This is my experience of a day of camping.
A typical day on a campsite begins when the sun rises.  Just get up, the “greatest” boys go down to the country village in a jeep to get the warm bread for breakfast.  After breakfast we leave the camp, all together, small and great, toward the mountains that serve as a background to the campsite, crossing lawns still soaked with the nighttime dew.  Then we reach the woods; we walk among the tall trees with the hope to perceive, in the distance, a roe that goes to drink in the brook.  When the sun begins to be high in the sky, we get to the mountains, leaving behind us woods and lawns and reaching the cold but fascinating rocky walls of the mountains.
On the crests of the mountains we often see some chamois that observe us with curiousity.  When the sun is high in the sky, we reach the top of the mountain.  Tired but happy, we sit down there to eat a snack and rest, observing with admiration the mountains and the valleys with their rivers and their woods. After a break, we come down to the valley, toward the campsite, with the satisfaction of having reached that top, having conquered that mountain.  In the late afternoon we reach our campsite; although we are tired, we put on a bathing costume and go to the river to bathe and dive before supper.  When dinner is over, we light a beautiful fire in the middle of the campsite, we sit around it and we play, joke and comment on the events of the day.  It is night by now and the youngest people have gone to sleep in the tents. We stay awake a little longer, to speak in a low voice between us under a starry sky crossed every now and then by some falling stars.

…in the late afternoon we reach our campsite…

…we go to the river to bathe and dive before supper…

…we light a beautiful fire in the middle of the campsite, we sit around it and we play, joke and comment on the events of the day…

With this short text I hope to succeed in convincing some young people to go camping in the mountains, at least once.

As other people have already said before me, life in the open air and the mountains are "schools of life" and offer the chance of escaping from the chaotic daily life.
